Unit Price Calculator
Compare two products by price per gram, kilogram, millilitre, litre or item to find the genuinely cheaper option.
How it works
Each product’s quantity is converted to a common base unit within its family — grams for mass, millilitres for volume, or left as a plain count for “each” items — so a 500g pack and a 1kg pack can be compared directly even though they’re priced in different quantities.
Unit Price = Price ÷ Quantity (converted to a common base unit)
Worked example
Product A: $4.00 for 500g. Product B: $6.00 for 1kg:
- Product A, per gram
- $4.00 ÷ 500 = $0.008/g
- Product B, per gram
- $6.00 ÷ 1,000 = $0.006/g
- Result
- Product B is about 33% cheaper per gram
Frequently asked questions
Mass (g/kg) and volume (mL/L) measure different things, and the ratio between them depends on the product's density — a gram of flour takes up more space than a gram of honey. The calculator only compares products within the same family: both by weight, both by volume, or both "each".
